Lecture Series on Qualitative Research, Applied Linguistics, and English and Contemporary South Asian Society: 1 December 2020 to 9 January 2021

The Research and Innovation Center at School of Education Kathmandu University, Nepal organized a Lecture Series on Qualitative Research, Applied Linguistics, and English and Contemporary South Asian Society from 21 December 2020 to 9 January 2021. The theme of the series was ‘the indigenous knowledge system to understand the world’.  Participants were Masters, Master of Philosophy and PhD students, researchers and university teachers from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, etc. Fourteen invited speakers from Nepal, India, Pakistan and Norway gave presentations on qualitative research, applied linguistics, English and contemporary South Asian society. Participation in Nepal People’s Forum on Sustainable Development 2019(NPFSD 2019)

August 21-22, 2019   Kathmandu University School of Education participated in a Nepal People’s Forum on Sustainable Development 2019 (NPFSD 2019) with a theme, “Accelerating civil society engagement: Realizing SDGs in Action”. The forum included over 70 Local, National, International CSOs including UN institutions and public institutions; National Planning Commission, Line Ministries, political units of Assembly, politicians and National Federations. KUSOED had been an Academic Partner to the program. Our graduates volunteered in developing and presenting thematic papers on the sessions, whereas Mr. Parbat Dhungana Assistant Professor, Sustainable Development Program Unit participated as a panelist and also presented his observation on the thematic paper ‘The 2030 Agenda/SDGs”. The processes will feed towards developing Nepal’s stances on United Nations important international events in September 2019; SDG Summit 2019, High level Dialogue on Financing for Development 2019, Climate Action Summit 2019 and High-level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage as a part of UN General Assembly, and Asia Pacific Week on Climate Change and UN Convention to Combat Desertification. KUSOED is thankful to the forum for realizing the collaboration among people, civil society and academia.

Proposal writing workshop for PAR team members

The two days proposal writing workshop was conducted on 24th and 25th July 2019 in Kathmandu University, School of Education located in Hattiban, lalitpur. All together 12 participants were present for the program which includes six masters and M.phil students of University while remaining were the phd scholars, professors and other academicians of the University. The goal of the workshop was to enhance the academic thesis writing skills of the students who have planned to conduct participatory action research thesis. The students learn to write different sections of thesis proposal including introduction part, literature part and methodology part. Also, they gain ideas on field engagement and how to build bonding within the local community members while conducting the intervention program.   Participatory Action Research has been newer methodology with the vision of societal change it brings through intervention programs. It has been challenging for both the professors and students to adopt and find different position of it in academic world. Need analysis training program for Nepal Police officers

14 July 2019 A three-week research oriented need analysis training program for Nepal Police officers kicked off in Kathmandu on Sunday. Inaugurating the program organized by Women, Children, and Senior Citizens Service Directorate (WCSCSD) of Nepal Police in technical collaboration with Kathmandu University School of Education, the Director of WCSCSD, Deputy Inspector General of Police Pitambar Adhikari highlighted the context for the capacity building initiatives of the Nepal Police on research skills. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dean of School of Education, Prof. Mahesh Nath Parajuli emphasized the role of the University in sharing contextual knowledge with various institutions like Nepal Police for the larger public good.  Addressing the ceremony Associate Dean Prof. Laxman Gnawali highlighted the content and the modality of the training program. Deputy Superintendent of Police Tshiring Kipa Lama presented a welcome note and Senior Superintendent of Police Tara Thapa shared the expectations of the participants. Twenty police officers of deferent ranks from different quarters of Nepal Police are participating in the program.

June 30, 2019 Student Welfare Council, KUSOED organized inter departmental futsal tournament. The game was played in Hattiban futsal. There were teams from each department and teams from staff as well as faculty. It was a day league game. Department of Development Education was the winner of the futsal tournament while Department of Leadership Education was runner-up. Prof. Mahesh Nath Parajuli, Dean of Kathmandu University School Education delivered congratulatory  speech and distributed medal and certificate to winning team, runner up team and certificate of participation to all participants.

  13 June 2019 Dr. Bhaskar Upadhya from University of Minnesota, USA conducted a workshop on Publishing Academic Articles in Journals for the faculties and post graduate  students of Kathmandu University on 13 June 2019. The purpose of the workshop was to share his experiences in relation to academic publication and to form a group of students and young faculties who need mentoring in publishing the  paper. A team of KUSOED, Dr. Laxman Gnawali, Dr. Dhanapati Subedi, Dr. Basu Prasad Subedi, Dr. Jiwak Raj Bajracharya and Mr. Parbat Dhungana facilitated a three-day training program to teachers of Trinity International College, Dillibazar Height, Kathmandu from 5th to 7th of June 2019. Altogether 90 teachers of Science and Management Streams participated in the program. Department of STEAM Education conducted a workshop on resource material preparation for mathematics teachers with a team of Teachers 2 Teachers (T2T) global USA on 2 June 2019. The workshop also explored the possibilities of future activities by collaborating with T2T global. EduHK Delegation visits KUSOED

15 May, 2019 EduHK Delegation visits KUSOED A four-member delegation from The Education University of Hong Kong (EduHK) led by Professor Lo Sing Kai, the Dean of the Graduate School of EduHK visited KUSOED today. The delegate met with the Dean and Associate Dean and other faculties and shared how the higher education scenario of Hong Kong is changing with Universities working hard to increase their world and regional rankings.  During the meeting, potential areas for collaborative partnership between the two institutions were also discussed. Prof. Lo also delivered a presentation on higher education opportunities in Hong Kong Universities. The session was attended by faculties as well as graduate scholars. The delegation returned home after completing the four day visit to Nepal.
